Pet: 6. Taming a pet

Your pet will become your best friend the whole time from 10-69 and at 70 you will wonder how you did without it before level 10.

It will be your own personal tank when farming and your extra bit of dps while in raids.

So at lvl 10 you get to tame your first pet. Follow the series of quests called “Taming the Beast”. For each stage of the quest, you are given a Taming Rod and asked to go and tame a certain beast. Turn in the third and last part and you will learn the skill: Tame Beast. This is the same as having your rod but without taking up a space in your inventory. Then from a higher leveled class trainer you will be able to learn Revive Pet – (bringing your pet back to life if killed) Feed Pet- (increasing your pets happiness and damage) and Train Pet which improves your pet and gives it special skills.

The quest givers for “Taming the Beast” are…

Dwarf – Grif Wildheart in Kharanos, Dun Morogh
Night Elf – Dazalar in Dolanaar, Teldrassil
Draenei – Huntress Kella Nightbow south of The Exodar, Azuremyst
Orc/Troll – Thotar in Razor Hill, Durotar
Tauren – Yaw Sharpmane in Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore
Blood Elf – Lieutenant Dawnrunner in Silvermoon City, Eversong

So now you are able to tame your own pet. You are only able to tame the ‘beast’ classes out there, some you are unable to but most of them you can.

All you have to do is select the creature and then cast the spell ‘Tame Beast’. The pet must not be a higher level than you otherwise the spell won’t work. It will also not work if any other player gets any amount of aggro with your target which means no damage done to it and no heals on you.

Once you start you will temporarily lose all your armor value and the 20 seconds of casting will begin. There are several tips on getting through this time with ease which are..

  • Double freeze it. This is where you put down a freezing trap, let the cooldown run out, pull your target and let it run into the trap. Then take a few steps back from it and place a new one then start to tame. This will mean it will have to break through 2 traps giving you more than enough time.
  • Put on aspect of the monkey to dodge any hits that are thrown at you and pull with scorpid sting to give the target less chance to hit you.
  • Use concussive shot straight after to slow the creatures movement towards you saving more time.

Remember to try taming from max range and to clear the area out around you to make life easier. If anything goes wrong feign death and start again. Have some food with you as well to feed your pet so it won’t run away straight after you tame it.

  1. This has changed in Wow…There is no quest for learning tame beast. But you don’t get freezing trap until lvl 28…don’t tell me to lay down a freezing trap , unless you make that crystal clear.
